Slim louvres for patio doors, conservatories and large windows

Vertical Blinds in Kent

Vertical blinds dominate the windows that other blinds struggle with. Patio doors. Floor-to-ceiling glazing. Wide picture windows in conservatories and offices. Bay windows where each section has different light requirements. The format – slim individual louvres on a top track – works for openings that are wider than they are tall, and it stacks neatly out of the way when you want a clear view. We make them across Kent.

Individual louvres on a top track

What Are Vertical Blinds?

A vertical blind has slim individual fabric or PVC louvres hanging vertically from a top track. Each louvre rotates so you can tilt them open for filtered daylight or closed for full coverage. The whole bank slides along the track to stack at one end (or split to both ends) when you want a clear view. Compared with horizontal blinds, the louvres don’t collect dust as readily and they handle wide openings without sagging.

Standard louvre width is 89mm. Slim 127mm louvres are available where you want a stronger visual statement on large windows. Plain weaves give a subtle finish; textured fabrics give richer character; PVC handles damp environments where fabric would fail. Bottom chains keep the louvres in line during operation – we leave them off if you prefer the cleanest look, fit them on if you want maximum stability.

Where Vertical Blinds Win

Vertical blinds suit the windows that other blinds struggle with – patio doors, conservatories, large picture windows, bay openings. Below are the four contexts where they consistently win.

Patio doors. Vertical blinds slide back to one side when the door’s open and pull across when closed. The standard answer for any rear-garden patio set.

Conservatories. Wide glazed walls take vertical blinds well. Pair with pleated roof blinds for full conservatory dressing.

Home offices. Anti-glare fabrics protect screen glare without darkening the room.

Bay windows. Each section of the bay tracks independently. We have a guide on how to fit vertical blinds in a bay window.

What changes from a roller install

Vertical Blind Installs From Start to Finish

Vertical installs are slightly more technical than rollers because the track has to run perfectly level over wide spans. Here is the three-stage process.

Survey

Vertical blind surveys are slightly longer than roller surveys because we need to measure the head depth above the track, the wall material the brackets will fix into, and the stack position when the louvres are open. Bay windows take longer because each bay section needs its own measurement.

Manufacture

UK workshop manufacture, typically three to five weeks from order. Each louvre is cut to length and weighted at the bottom for hang stability.

Install

Track up first, levelled across the full run. Louvres hung from the carriers one at a time. Bottom chain (if specified) connects the bottoms of the louvres for stability. We test the slide and the tilt before we leave.

What we do differently

Why Customers Ask Us For Vertical Blinds

On wide vertical runs, the install detail makes or breaks the result. Three things separate a good vertical install from a bad one.

Track levelling on wide runs

On a vertical blind across a 3-metre patio door, the track has to run perfectly level. Even a small slope makes the louvres drift. We use a long spirit level, not a short one, and we shim if the lintel itself isn’t level.

Slat width recommendation

Most retailers default to 89mm. We’ll recommend 127mm when the room or the window calls for it. The wider slats often look better in modern interiors but cost slightly more.

Bay window expertise

Vertical blinds in bay windows need careful track design – typically a separate track per bay section, with louvres that stack inward toward the corners. We’ve fitted plenty of bay verticals and we know how to do it cleanly.

Carpenter-led service

The same person visits your home to take the measurements and then returns to carry out the installation. Because one set of hands handles the whole job, every dimension is checked and trusted from start to finish.
