My curtain poles were close to the shutters, so I was unable to open my shutters fully. After a day I had decided a wanted my curtain pole moved. What Are Roller Blinds
A roller blind is a single piece of fabric attached to a top tube. Pull the chain (or press a remote on a motorised version) and the fabric rolls up around the tube, leaving the window clear. When closed, the fabric drops cleanly across the glass with no folds, no slats, no fuss. The mechanism is small, the projection is minimal, and the blind fits inside the window recess or face-fixes to the wall as you prefer.
Roller blinds are popular for a reason: they’re affordable, easy to live with, easy to replace, and the fabric range is enormous. From a £40 budget kitchen blind to a £400 bespoke blackout-lined master bedroom blind, the format scales across the price spectrum. The fabric is the variable; the mechanism is largely the same.
Bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, offices and beyond
Where Roller Blinds Shine
Roller blinds work in nearly every room because the same format adapts to different jobs. Below are the rooms where rollers consistently come up first in conversation at survey.
Bedrooms with blackout requirements. Certified blackout fabric plus snug recess fit (or side channels if you want to go further) gives proper darkness for sleeping.
Kitchens and bathrooms. Performance fabrics resist moisture and wipe clean. PVC-coated rollers handle splashes without staining.
Living rooms. Mid-weight prints add texture without the fabric volume of curtains. Sheer rollers give privacy by day while preserving the view.
Home offices. Anti-glare fabrics control screen glare without darkening the room.

How a Roller Blind Goes From Idea To Install
Roller blinds are the simplest blind to make and the simplest to install. Here is how the three stages run.
Home Visit
Barry comes with the full fabric library and the cassette samples. We measure every window, talk through which fabrics work for the room, and confirm whether you want recess fit, face-fit, with side channels or without. The visit takes 10 to 20 minutes for a single room. You’ll have the written quote in your inbox the same day.
Manufacture
Roller blinds are made fast – typically two to four weeks from order to delivery, the shortest lead time in our blind range. UK workshops, British fabrics, tight quality control on the cut and the seam.
Install
Brackets level, blind hung, chain side and tensioner anchored, child-safety device fitted. We test the roll and the brake before we leave. Most rooms take 15 to 30 minutes per blind.
What goes above the fabric matters
Cassette Versus Open-Roller Systems
Most homeowners think of a roller blind as just “the fabric and the tube.” Actually there are two distinct systems and the choice shapes how the blind looks and operates.
An open-roller system has the tube and the rolled fabric visible at the top of the window. It’s the most affordable option, the easiest to access if anything ever needs adjusting, and it’s the most common choice for kitchens, bathrooms and any utility-feeling room. The exposed mechanism gives a slightly industrial finish that suits modern kitchens but can look unfinished in a formal living room.
A cassette system encloses the tube and the rolled fabric in a slim head box made from aluminium or PVC. The cassette finishes the head of the blind cleanly, hiding the mechanism completely. It’s the right choice for bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and any space where you want the blind to look like a deliberate feature rather than a piece of hardware. We typically recommend cassettes for any front-of-house room and open-rollers for back-of-house and utility rooms.

Three things that come up in reviews
Why Customers Choose Us For Roller Blinds
When customers come back to us with reviews, three things keep showing up. They are not about the fabric – they are about how we handle the install.
The fabric library at the survey
Online retailers ask you to pick a fabric from a thumbnail on a screen. We bring the actual swatches to your room. The difference between a fabric in your home’s natural light and a fabric in a Photoshopped product image is enormous.
Cassette finish on living-room rollers
Most online roller blinds ship as open-roller. We default to cassette for front-of-house rooms because the finish is what makes the blind look intentional rather than added on.
Bracket levelling
If the brackets aren’t level the blind doesn’t roll evenly, and the fabric drifts to one side over time. We level with a long spirit level rather than a short one, which is why our rollers still hang straight years later.
Carpenter-led service
We don’t subcontract the fitting. Same person who took the measurements puts the brackets in the wall.
Roller blind questions answered
Frequently Asked Questions
Not technically, but it makes the blind look more finished. We recommend cassettes for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms; open-roller is fine for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms.
With a certified blackout fabric and either a snug recess fit or side channels, yes. On its own, a standard blackout roller will block the fabric panel but allow some light leak around the edges.
Yes. Every blind we fit is child-safe as standard, with chain tensioner devices anchored to the wall to prevent loops. For nurseries we recommend cord-free motorised or perfect-fit alternatives.
Two to four weeks for standard fabrics. Premium and printed fabrics can take a little longer.
Some ranges allow this. Most of the time it’s better value to replace the head mechanism rather than retrofit.
