Concertina-fold blinds for skylights, conservatory roofs and shaped windows
Pleated Blinds in Kent
Pleated blinds are the answer for windows other blinds can’t dress. Skylights, conservatory roofs, tilt-and-turn windows, narrow side panels, gable triangles. The fabric is folded into a fine concertina that compresses to a slim stack when fully open and expands to cover the opening when down. Slim mechanism, minimal projection, fabric chosen for the room. We make them across Kent.

My curtain poles were close to the shutters, so I was unable to open my shutters fully. After a day I had decided a wanted my curtain pole moved. Messaged Barry and they were moved in a few day, again without any problems. I am now hoping to have the thermal blinds at the back of my house. Concertina folds on a slim mechanism
What Pleated Blinds Are
A pleated blind is a continuous strip of fabric folded in a fine concertina pattern. Slim cords or rods control the fold mechanism, and the blind compresses to a small stack when fully open. The mechanism takes minimal projection, the fabric stack at the head is shallow, and the blind sits close to the glass.
This format fits windows that hinged or rolled blinds simply can’t. Sloping conservatory roof glazing – the most common pleated installation – takes a pleated blind running parallel to the slope on slim aluminium tracks. Tilt-and-turn windows take pleated blinds that move with the window. Triangular and trapezoidal gable windows take custom-shaped pleated blinds where the folds match the geometry.

Where Pleated Blinds Earn Their Place
Pleated blinds are not an everyday blind. They are the answer for windows other formats cannot dress. Below are the four window types where pleated is the right call.
Conservatory roofs. The standard fix for sloping glazing on Victorian, Edwardian or modern conservatories.
Skylights and Velux apertures. For non-Velux skylights, pleated is usually the right answer. For Velux apertures, see Velux brand blinds.
Tilt-and-turn windows. The slim mechanism doesn’t catch when the window tilts inward.
Shaped and angled windows. Triangular, trapezoidal, half-circle – pleated handles geometries that standard rectangular blinds can’t.
What can go wrong if it's not done properly
Why Pleated Installs Benefit From a Carpenter
Conservatory and skylight installs are where carpenter-led really matters. Four things often go wrong with cheap installations.
Glazing-bar fixing. Conservatory roof tracks fix to the glazing bars, not the glass. Cheap installations sometimes drill into the glazing bar carelessly, which can crack the seal between bar and glass. We use the right fixing technique to avoid this.
Reflective fabric on south-facing roofs. Most online pleated retailers sell standard fabric. We’ll recommend reflective performance fabric for roofs, which costs slightly more but solves the summer overheating problem properly.
Tilt-and-turn clearance. On tilt-and-turn windows the pleated blind has to clear the inward-tilting top of the window. We check the geometry at survey before quoting.
Single-visit install. Conservatory roof installs typically need scaffolding or a step ladder. We bring what we need and finish the job in one visit.

Survey, build, fit
Pleated Blinds Install Process
Pleated installs vary by window. Conservatory roofs are the most technical; tilt-and-turn windows are quick. Here is how each runs.
Survey
Pleated surveys are technical because the geometry of the window matters. For conservatory roofs, we measure each glazing pane individually. For tilt-and-turn windows, we check the window operation to confirm the pleated mechanism won’t catch.
Build
UK manufacture, typically three to five weeks. Conservatory roof installations are batched per glazing pane and shipped as a set.
Install
Track first on each pane, blind clipped into the track, operating cord or rod fitted. Conservatory roof installs typically take a half-day for a standard 5-pane roof.
