Dartford sits at the north-western boundary of Kent — just across from the Dartford Crossing and London’s commuter belt, with a housing mix that reflects its position as one of Kent’s fastest-growing towns. Victorian and Edwardian terraces in the town centre, significant interwar and postwar stock through Bean, Stone, and Swanscombe Road, substantial new development around Eastern Quarry and the Ebbsfleet Valley, and the more rural housing fringe towards Fawkham and Longfield to the south.

The VIP Shutter Co covers Dartford from our Rochester base — around 25 minutes along the A2. We supply and fit bespoke made-to-measure plantation shutters across Dartford and the surrounding area.

Shutters That Suit Dartford's Housing Stock

The town centre and older residential streets — Victorian and Edwardian terraces in and around the town centre, including the streets off Lowfield Street and towards Priory Hill, have typical bay-fronted ground floors and sash windows. Full height or tier on tier shutters in hardwood or MDF are the standard choice.

Stone, Bean, and Swanscombe Road corridor — A strong stock of 1930s and postwar semis with casement windows. Full height shutters in engineered MDF are the practical choice — stable, low maintenance, any finish.

Eastern Quarry and Ebbsfleet Garden City — Some of the newest housing stock in Kent, with contemporary window proportions, uPVC frames, and frequently bifold or sliding door openings. Full height shutters in ABS or MDF; tracked systems for wide glazing spans.

Longfield, New Barn, and Fawkham — Village-fringe properties including period cottages, larger detached houses, and former agricultural conversions. Custom shaped shutters for non-standard openings; hardwood for period-appropriate finishes.

Materials and Finish Options

Every shutter is cut to your precise window dimensions. We don’t adjust standard sizes — everything is made to measure from the start.

Hardwood — Sustainably sourced real wood. Warmest look and feel, best for period properties. Available in any paint colour or stained finish, including bespoke RAL shades if you want to match existing woodwork exactly.

Engineered MDF — The most practical choice for most homes. Dimensionally stable, takes paint exceptionally well, and at a lower price point than solid wood without compromising on appearance.

Waterproof ABS — Fully waterproof. The right choice for bathrooms, kitchens, en-suites, and rooms with high humidity such as riverside properties. Identical appearance to painted MDF but will never warp or swell.

Louvre sizes: 47mm, 63mm, 76mm, and 89mm. Larger louvres let more light through when open and give a more contemporary feel. Smaller louvres suit traditional sash windows and period interiors. We’ll advise which works best for your specific window during the survey.

Tilt rod options: central rod (traditional look) or hidden tilt (clean, contemporary — the louvres adjust via a small magnet mechanism with no visible rod).

Why Dartford Homeowners Choose VIP

Dartford is changing quickly — Ebbsfleet Garden City, the A2 corridor development, the growth around the Crossing. Alongside that there’s a strong stock of Victorian and interwar housing in the older parts of town that needs a different kind of attention. We’re comfortable across all of it.

We’re a Kent business, not a Surrey or London company stretched to cover the county boundary. Dartford is North Kent as far as we’re concerned, and we treat it accordingly. Honest quotes, our own fitters, and a 5-year warranty that means something because we’re still here in Rochester to honour it.
