What Are Day and Night Blinds?
A Day and Night blind carries two layers of fabric on one roller mechanism. Both layers are striped, with bands of sheer (see-through) fabric taking turns with bands of opaque (solid) fabric. Pull the chain, or press the remote, in one direction and the two layers line up, so solid sits over solid and sheer sits over sheer. You end up with a run of alternating soft-light and clear-light bands across the glass, and you can see out clearly through the sheer bands.
Pull the other way and the layers shift out of step. Now the solid strips sit against the sheer strips, so every band across the window is half covered. The blind closes the room off without turning completely solid. If you want true blackout, you would still add a separate blackout roller behind it, but for daytime privacy that keeps your daylight, nothing beats a vision blind.

Why Day and Night Blinds Need Careful Specification
Cheap Day and Night blinds tend to go wrong in three particular ways. Here is how we deal with each one.
- Layer alignment. Budget Day and Night blinds sometimes turn up with the layers a little out of step, so the clear setting never quite goes clear and the obscured setting never quite goes obscure. We check the alignment when we fit.
- Fabric quality. The sheer fabric has to be truly see-through without looking thin and worn. The solid fabric has to be genuinely solid. Cheap fabrics let you down on one or the other, or both. Our range is chosen properly.
- Chain tension. Because of that second layer, Day and Night blinds carry a heavier mechanism than an ordinary roller. Get the chain tensioner wrong and the blind starts to drift. We set the tension on the day, and we know where it needs to be.
